I can still remember the first time that I met 'Mom and Dad' Gomez. I had known Michelle for a semester or two at AU and it was time to move back in again. Michelle had LOTS of things to be shlepped in, and since there wasn't anything that he wouldn't do for his 'girls', he lugged and moved all of her stuff up to her dorm room. At the time we ( both Kenny and I ) met Dad, he was tired and stressed and couldn't wait to be finished! It was from then on we saw Mom and Dad as the smiling Gomez's. Nothing could have been farther from the truth, though. Every time that we saw him thereafter, he had an amazing smile on his face. It was always genuine, and one that warmed your heart. It didn't matter if we hadn't seen each other in days or months, we were always greeting with a warm bear-hug and that fabulous smile. It is that picture in my mind that will be our remembrance of Dad. As we will never truly give up missing him, I will go on knowing that in my heart I can always celebrate such a wonderful life!

Love to Go-Go and Ma Gomez, Rody, Kenny, Ryan, Connor, and Dylan

It seems that people whom you enjoy being with, whom you consider good friends, will be with you forever. Richard was one of those people and his not being with us creates an immense void. Richard will remain in our hearts and in our memories.

We will miss you, but we know you are with God. We also are very grateful to have had you as a friend.
Love to you.

I grew up with the Gomez's, they were my second family. Richard will be sorely missed! I wanted to share a couple of moments I have had with Richard, thus proving the caliber of individual he was. When Michelle and I were 10, we went away to Florida with her parents for Passover. Little to our dismay, a massive snow storm hit NY and within hours, all flights were grounded and we were snowed in. We were snowed in for 36 hours and all we had to eat were M&M's from the vending machine. Well, needless to say, I got hysterical and called my mother to come and get me from the airport. Richard, being the level headed person he was, took the phone from me and spoke to my mom and explained that everything ws fine and she should NOT even attempt to get on the road. After he got off the phone, he then very calmly explained that the planes were to be resuming flight soon and we were going to have a great time. Within minutes, I was smiling and forgot everything. Once we were in Florida, one evening we went to a French restaurant and Carol and Richard ordered escargot (snails), it came out and I was mortified. No way was I going to eat this. Richard said go on try them, they're good. I put one in my mouth and started chewing, Richard was laughing and said you don't chew them, you swallow them. Nevertheless, that was the first and last time I have had them. There are so many good times, so many memories and there will only be ONE Richard Gomez! All my love,

I will always remember meeting up with Richie as I meet up with Carol at Serendipity.
A kind, wonderful man who always brought a great smile to all who met him.
The website is so touching. Thank you for sharing.

Mrs. Gomez and Michelle, our thoughts are with you in your time bereavement.

Mr. Gomez will be missed by all, including his family here at Cambridge Beaches.

He was a true gentleman and his love for life was evident as was his love and affection for the two of you.

Dear Richie,

I remember your smile,

I remember your laugh,

I remember you in the kitchen on Christmas morn,

I remember your love of jazz,

I remember you hunting for jazz on Bourbon Street,

I remember your chocolate mousse, your amaretto cheesecake and your garlic mashed potatoes,

I remember you at the head of the table - the proud and loving 'pater familias',

I remember your pouring the heavy and full pot of tea and muttering away,

I remember the 'First Class' omelet you didn't get on your way to Michelle's Law School graduation,

I remember your love of cameras and electronic gadgets and the 'Gomez Phone Company',

I remember you and Carol called to open the Ark in the men's card room at the Club,

I remember your warmth and your strength and your dignity,

But most of all, I remember the way you looked at Carol and Michelle with your eyes so full of love and pride,

I remember....

We can look back with pleasure at the times we spent with Richie and Carol ... remembering their closeness and happiness at being together.

After a period of 18 years we met again in VA. It seemed that no time had passed. Their relationship with each other and with us was just a continuation of our friendship.

Richie's smile and affability will always be with us, and in retrospect it was good to see him again before his passing.

This picture of Ritchie is how I see him when I close my eye's and think of him. It will always be with smile and a glint in his eye. If the eyes are the window to the soul then you knew when you looked into Ritchie's eyes there was a knowing, deeper understanding soul that "got it" and had a lot to say. But in my family not often when we do gather does that opportunity present itself. His presence always gave me a sense of calm, strength and assuredness that he would catch you if you were to fall. Especially at my Mother's dying bedside and funeral, at my Aunt Jennette's funeral. He was always there for the family. He made my Cousin Carol the happiest she ever was with his love and visa versa. Shell's had a father who made her "daddy's girl", how special is that! He truly was a successful man according to Ralph Waldo Emerson and all of us who he touched!

We are truly grateful to have been friends with Richard through Carol. He was a renaissance man, as Carol said and we enjoyed discussing places he had been to and pictures he had taken, as he was an avid photographer. Whenever we got together, there came Richie with his "big" camera (most of us were already using digital and he was using 35mm) ready to snap our group and individual pictures. We got to see him about once a month, and every time we did, we would ask him if he was ready to settle down and spend more time in this state that we got to like so much. It was always the same answer: "No way." He was not ready to give up the "city" and have to rely so much on the use of his car. That's what we admired so much about him. He stuck to his beliefs and you couldn't get him to change. But he was always cordial and accepted all of Carol's friends who were in our group of 10-12 and we felt like he did enjoy being with all of us. Richie, may you rest in peace and you will never be forgotten for the good person we knew you to be.

This is Richie as I will always remember him...with a big smile on his face. Although the last time I saw Carol and Richie was in Washington, DC, the picture I will always have in my minds eye is Richie walking around in the city with a camera around his neck...and that big signature smile!

Carol and Shells, you know that you were the ones who put that smile there, you were his girls. He loved you both so much and was so proud of you, especially you, Shells.

He will be missed by the many who loved him.

What can I say except that Richie was one of the nicest people we have ever known. We had so much fun, so many laughs, and great times together. So many dinners we spent talking, rehashing old times and enjoying his company so very much. We will miss him more than words can say-such a great friend. It seems so unreal. We love you Carol and Michelle. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you daily. See you soon.

Would like to send our condolences to your family. This memorial touched my heart deeply, as I am a huge daddy's girl and Richard seems like such a wonderful man! :-) Your friends in grieving, Teya's Family (Teya Faith Cook; also here on VM.)
